Bird Watching at Wulingshan Nature Reserve 3 Days

		Best Time: All year round

		Tour Introduction

Wulingshan is a forested hill not far from Beijing which harbors such specialties as Koklass Pheasant, White-backed Woodpecker, Spotted Nutcracker, Grey-sided Thrush, "Chinese" Narcissus Flycatcher and good numbers of Chinese Leaf Warbler, as well as Xianghai, a huge wetland reserve near the border with Inner Mongolia in what used to be Manchuria. We'll also explore the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, the so-called "Roof of the World," where the surreal lunar landscape and Qinghai Hu (known as Koko Nor Lake to many) in particular hold an impressive range of alluring species, and Huzu Bei Shan, a recently opened area with a remnant of ancient forest thronged with Phylloscopus warblers, redstarts and buntings as well as innumerable regional specialties.

Drive from Beijing to Wulingshan in neighboring Hebei Province. The fabulous forested mountain rises to about 6500 feet and we'll have two days to explore a variety of areas. Our primary targets will be Grey-sided Thrush and the endemic Chinese race of Narcissus Flycatcher. Fortunately both are reasonably common here. The forests resound with the songs of Chinese Leaf and Hume's Warblers, and the vociferous cries of Koklass Pheasant and Spotted Nutcracker ring from the hillsides. Chinese Bush Warbler and Siberian Blue Robin creep about far more furtively but may well be tricked in to the open.
