Chongqing was once called “Bazhou” or “Yuzhou” in history. It lies on the hinterland of Southwest China. It borders Sichuan on the west and Shaanxi on the north. The landform in Chongqing is special. Hills and highlands are the major forms, thus the city also has been called “Mountain City.”
 
Chongqing has a subtropical climate with an annual average temperature of 18`C, an annual rainfall of 1,000mm and an annual average humidity of 79%. The land is green even in winter. The four seasons in Chongqing are characterized by an early spring, a hot summer, a rainy autumn and a warm winter. The best weather is in April, May, September and October.
 
Chongqing has a history of more than 3000 years and it is also the youngest municipality of China. Chongqing is famous for the towering mountains and roaring rivers, which have witnessed the local civilization of over 3000 years.
 
The city maintains its regional importance in defense, politics, trade, and logistics for a long time. Its glories and growth has become a symbol on the history of China. In the recent 100 years,Chongqing was first the commercial and trade center of the region, then the wartime capital in the War of Liberation and now it is on the path for greater prospect.
 
It was an ancient military fort and now the hub connecting China's vast west and eastern coast as well as the rest of the world. It was China's ancient regional trade center and now the economic center of the upper Yangtze River. It was a town specialized in entrepot trade and now the largest industrial & commercial city of the region. It was a port city based in the Sichuan Basin and now a municipality opened to the whole world.
